Meet Laura
My Practice
I will hold a safe space for you that will offer hope, strength, and transformation as you work on healing the relationship with yourself, and with others in your life. Some key components to this are acceptance, trust, forgiveness and gratitude. I look forward to sharing heartfelt practices to activate your awareness.
Part of my specialization is assisting you in clearing out unconscious material and addressing concerns you are dealing with so that we can bring in a new harmonious energy that supports the truth of who you are.
Humanistic Counseling, Internal Family Systems, Transpersonal Psychology, Equine Therapy, Hypnotherapy, & Art Therapy are a few of the modalities that you will be experiencing. My philosophy is based on healing and releasing one's traumatic past by way of peace, acceptance, and cooperation. Positive transformation occurs as you come into self-acceptance, meaningful change, honoring your strengths and limitations, and trusting your innate ability to heal.
I work with people of all ages, abilities, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations.
What to Expect from a Counseling Session
To begin, I will have you complete an assessment, which is an intake process for me to gather information about your past, present and your intention for your future. Together we will determine which combination of therapeutic approaches will work for you according to your needs. It will likely be elements of EMDR, hypnotherapy, IFS and expressive arts. Though it is not required, I find that clients who work on assignments during the week have a faster recovery process than clients who rely exclusively on weekly sessions.
Therapy Experience
Over the past 30 years, I have worked in a variety of mental health settings: private practice, residential treatment centers for adolescents and adults, non-profit organizations, and as a college professor of psychology, When I offered art therapy and counseling at a juvenile hall, adult jail and through the foster programs, I learned what is important for a client’s well-being. They needed someone who could provide them the ability to process what was going on for them, to feel heard and understood, and experience that they matter. Through the addiction treatment centers, my colleagues and I provided opportunity for connection through community. One of the most powerful ways I watched clients heal is in exploring self through creativity: painting, ceramics, psychodrama, movement therapy, and many other creative outlets. Opportunities to practice expressive arts therapies creates an environment of self-reflection, fun, group participation, self-awareness that then leads into personal transformation. During my time assisting with Insight Seminars, I witnessed youth waking up to their true self through group engagement, spirituality, and creative arts. These years of experience have been an abundance of opportunity for my personal growth and awareness. My sense of interconnection and gratitude to each of my clients runs deep like a well. Thank you to all of you who have shared your voices and stories with me and assisted with self-actualization in becoming who I am today.
